The Cleveland Community College volleyball team hit the road for a tri-match in Virginia, coming away with one victory and two tough battles against Region 10 opponents.
Game 1: Cleveland 3, Southwest Virginia 1
The Yetis opened the weekend on a strong note, defeating Southwest Virginia in four sets (25–17, 25–27, 25–15, 25–20).
London Brown led the attack with 18 kills and added 19 digs for a double-double performance. Ariann Hernandez was efficient with 12 kills, while Sara Rose Warlick tallied 10 kills and 17 digs. In the middle, Corinne Cutter and Janiyah Giddens combined for 8 kills and 9 block assists, helping Cleveland control the net.
Defensively, the back row shined as Kaitlyn Clutter posted 25 digs to anchor the defense, while setter Addison Beaver dished out 23 assists to go along with 9 digs and 2 aces. The balanced team effort pushed the Yetis to their first win of the weekend.
Game 2: Cape Fear 3, Cleveland 0
In their Saturday opener, the Yetis faced a tough Cape Fear squad and fell in straight sets (16–25, 14–25, 23–25).
Despite the loss, Cleveland showed bright spots on offense. Warlick led with 10 kills, while Brown and Hernandez each chipped in 8 kills, and Truly Gibbs added 7 kills. Beaver ran the offense with 23 assists, and Clutter once again anchored the defense with 13 digs.
The Yetis saved their best for the third set, battling point-for-point before narrowly falling 23–25.
Game 3: Fayetteville Tech 3, Cleveland 0
Cleveland closed the weekend against Fayetteville Tech, dropping a three-set match (11–25, 14–25, 23–25).
Brown and Hernandez led the way again with 9 and 8 kills, respectively, while Beaver guided the offense with 12 assists and 9 digs. Clutter was steady in the back row with 12 digs, and Brianna Martinez contributed 2 service aces.
After a slow start in the first two sets, the Yetis fought hard in the third, nearly forcing extra points before Fayetteville Tech pulled away late. The Yetis leave Virginia with valuable experience and a key road win, showing growth and resilience as they continue their Region 10 schedule.
