Cleveland Community College baseball put together a strong offensive stretch across a busy week of action, highlighted by a three-game sweep over Southwest Virginia Community College and several standout individual performances against Catawba Valley.
The week opened with a tight road battle on April 15, as the Yetis fell 10-9 to Catawba Valley in a back-and-forth contest. Cleveland struck first with four runs in the third inning, powered by a two-run double from Tyler Rosario, an RBI single from Reese Guertin, and an RBI double from Cruise Arnold. The Yetis added runs late, including a three-run ninth inning, but Catawba Valley answered with the walk-off run in the bottom half.
Walker Hartley led the lineup with two hits and two runs scored, while Rosario finished with two RBIs, two runs, and two stolen bases. Arnold added two hits and two RBIs, and Tanner Britt drove in two runs, including a triple. Drew Yelton gave the Yetis a strong start on the mound, striking out seven over five innings.
Cleveland responded in dominant fashion on April 18, sweeping Southwest Virginia in a doubleheader by scores of 19-0 and 13-0.
In game one, the Yetis erupted for 19 runs on 13 hits, including an 11-run third inning. Guertin set the tone early with a three-run home run in the first, finishing with four RBIs. Arnold also drove in four runs, while Rosario added a three-run homer and finished with three RBIs. Timothy Negron doubled and drove in three runs, and Alex McKee added two doubles and an RBI.
On the mound, Charlie Collins earned the win with three shutout innings, allowing just two hits. Kohen Orr and John Risk finished the combined shutout, with Orr striking out all three batters he faced in the fourth.
The Yetis kept rolling in game two, scoring four runs in the second and eight more in the third on the way to a 13-0 win. Josh Negron had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Hartley added two hits, three RBIs, three runs, and three stolen bases. Riley Stiles, Connor Lindsey, Tanner Britt, Evan Estes, and Cruise Arnold also contributed key hits as Cleveland finished with 12 as a team.
Reese Guertin earned the win on the mound, striking out five over two scoreless innings. Gabe Tatum, Anthony Lopossay, and Breck Arnold helped finish the shutout, with the pitching staff combining for 10 strikeouts.
Cleveland completed the Southwest Virginia sweep on April 19 with a 9-0 win. The Yetis scored in the first, added two in the second, and broke the game open with four runs in the sixth. Britt tripled, drove in a run, scored, and stole three bases, while Lindsey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex McKee added a two-run double, Rosario homered, and Arnold recorded two hits and two runs scored.
The Yetis used six pitchers in the shutout, with Charlie Davis earning the win. Caleb Cloninger, Davis, Parker Rasmey, Bryson Moseman, Carter Sterchi, and Brady Raye combined to hold Southwest Virginia to four hits while striking out eight.
Cleveland closed the stretch with another matchup against Catawba Valley on April 22, falling 15-5 in six innings. The Yetis jumped ahead early behind a two-run double from Britt in the first. Britt continued his strong week with a two-run home run in the fifth and finished with four RBIs. Timothy Negron went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while Rosario added two hits.
Across the week, the Yetis showed offensive depth throughout the lineup, with multiple players delivering extra-base hits, home runs, and multi-RBI performances. Cleveland's pitching staff was especially strong in the Southwest Virginia series, posting three straight shutouts while combining for 24 strikeouts.
