Bio
Steve McCachren brings decades of experience and a passion for developing athletes to his role as Head Coach of the Yetis Cross Country and Track & Field programs.
A former standout runner at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, McCachren competed in both track and cross country, setting the school record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:29. Following his collegiate career, he turned to coaching, where he has guided athletes at every level of competition.
McCachren’s coaching journey includes founding and leading the Cleveland County Home School Cross Country team, serving as Head Boys Track & Field Coach at Central Cabarrus High School, and working as an Assistant Coach for UNC Charlotte’s men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams. His leadership and technical expertise have left a lasting impact on countless athletes throughout the region.
In addition to his coaching career, McCachren is a retired Cleveland County Schools Exceptional Children’s teacher. He was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Marion Elementary and received the Agape Award from East Elementary, highlighting his dedication to both education and mentoring young people.
McCachren holds a B.A. degree from UNC Charlotte and continues to combine his love for athletics and teaching in building the Yetis into a program known for excellence, discipline, and heart.
