Women's Basketball Surges Late to Secure First Home Victory of the Season
The Lady Yetis set the tone for the home slate with a strong 76–67 win over Cape Fear on Saturday afternoon, using a dominant fourth quarter to pull away and protect their home floor.
The Yetis held a narrow edge through three quarters, but the final period was where they took control—outscoring Cape Fear 24–18 behind aggressive attacks at the rim, active rebounding, and steady composure at the free-throw line.
Jada Whitesides delivered a standout performance, pouring in a game-high 30 points. She knocked down four threes and went 8-for-11 at the line, consistently creating space and finishing plays when the offense needed a spark.
Kari Lee was exceptional as both a scorer and facilitator, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds in a near triple-double effort. Her command of the floor kept the offense clicking, especially in transition.
In the paint, De'Mya Phifer and Kate Glover anchored the interior with energy on the boards. Phifer grabbed 7 rebounds and added 7 points, while Glover contributed 6 points and 6 boards, providing timely second-chance opportunities and defensive stops.
Off the bench, Isabella Childs gave the Yetis a valuable lift, adding 6 points and 2 blocks. Kiya Shavers also sparked momentum from beyond the arc, knocking down two threes to stretch the lead in the second half. Freshman Juliana Ball was a perfect 1-for-1 from deep, adding 3 points and efficient minutes in the rotation.
The Yetis won the rebounding battle 41–35 and moved the ball well, racking up 18 assists on 25 made baskets. That ball movement, paired with defensive pressure that forced 24 Cape Fear turnovers, made the difference down the stretch.
With the first home win of the season secured, the Yetis look poised to build momentum as they continue their early non-conference schedule.
