Cleveland Community College softball showed its resilience over the weekend, shaking off a pair of tough losses at Louisburg College on Saturday before roaring back with a doubleheader sweep at Wake Technical Community College on Sunday.
The Yetis opened the weekend with a 4-2 loss in the first game at Louisburg despite outhitting the Hurricanes 8-6. Cleveland erased a two-run deficit in the fifth inning when Zaley Packett delivered an RBI single and Sara Rose Warlick brought home the tying run. Packett led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Sophia Neal added two hits and Peyton Whitson scored a run. Brookelynn Farmer worked all six innings in the circle.
The second game at Louisburg turned into a back-and-forth battle, but the Yetis came up just short in a 9-8 setback. Cleveland jumped out quickly behind Packett, who blasted a three-run homer in the first inning and added a three-run double in the second. She finished with six RBIs in the game. Whitson went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, Neal collected three hits and scored twice, and Warlick added two hits, including a double and a triple. After building an 8-4 lead, the Yetis were unable to hold off a late Louisburg rally.
Cleveland responded in emphatic fashion on Sunday at Wake Tech.
In the opener, the Yetis erupted for 19 runs in a five-inning shutout. Cleveland scored in every inning through the third and broke the game open with a 13-run explosion in the third. Whitson scored four times and drove in two runs, Neal crossed the plate four times and finished with five RBIs, and Packett scored four runs while adding two hits and two RBIs. Allison Setzer also turned in a big day with two hits and four RBIs, while Warlick drove in three. Neal was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning shutout and allowing just three hits.
The offensive surge continued in the second game as the Yetis outlasted Wake Tech 14-6 to complete the sweep. After Wake Tech answered Cleveland's early 3-0 lead with a four-run first inning, the Yetis quickly regained control with four runs in the second and never gave it back. Warlick paced the attack with a 4-for-5 performance and four RBIs, Setzer went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBIs, and Packett scored four runs while collecting three more hits. Whitson added a triple, two hits, and three runs scored, while Neal moved from second base to the circle and delivered four scoreless relief innings to help seal the win.
Across the four games, Cleveland's lineup produced plenty of standout performances. Packett had a monster weekend at the plate, combining extra-base power with clutch run production. Warlick and Setzer both came through in key moments, while Whitson consistently set the tone at the top of the lineup. Neal impacted the weekend both offensively and in the circle, helping lead the Yetis' bounce-back effort on Sunday.
After a frustrating Saturday in Louisburg, the Yetis answered with authority at Wake Tech, showing the kind of fight and fire that can carry momentum into the final stretch of the season.
