RALEIGH, NC — The Yetis softball team made a commanding statement over the weekend, sweeping Wake Technical Community College in two doubleheaders on back-to-back days at Buffaloe Road Park. With a mix of dominant pitching, clutch hitting, and aggressive baserunning, the Yetis improved their record to 30-7 overall (20-4 conference), while Wake Tech dropped to 18-27 (12-20).
GAME ONE: Cleveland 3, Wake Tech 2 - Pitching Duel Ends in Yetis' Favor
Cleveland's Christian Beaver (14-3) outdueled Wake Tech's Lily Correll in a tightly contested seven-inning matchup. The Yetis took the lead in the third inning on a two-run homer by catcher Austyn Dixon, and shortstop Kassie Swink delivered the game-winning RBI with a fifth-inning double that scored Mckenzie Norman.
Beaver was sharp, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and striking out seven. Correll fanned 13 in a tough-luck loss but allowed a pair of long balls that proved decisive.
GAME TWO: Cleveland 7, Wake Tech 0 - Strange Silences Bats in One-Hitter
Sophomore Sayge Strange took the circle in game two and tossed a dominant one-hit shutout. She struck out three and walked two, facing only 15 batters in four innings of a run-rule-shortened game.
Cleveland's offense exploded early, including a four-run third sparked by Peyton Whitson's RBI walk and a two-run single by Christian Beaver. Austyn Dixon once again fueled the offense, going 3-for-3 with an RBI double in the first.
Wake Tech struggled defensively, committing four errors and allowing several unearned runs.
GAME THREE: Cleveland 7, Wake Tech 3 - Six-Run Surge Secures Third Straight
After falling behind 1–0 in the first inning, Cleveland came alive in the fourth and sixth innings. Christian Beaver launched a solo home run to tie the game, and the Yetis plated three more in the frame with key contributions from Molly Beam, Mckenzie Norman, and Kassie Swink.
Norman later added an RBI double in the sixth, and Jaylen Ledbetter drove in another on a groundout. Strange earned her 13th win of the season, pitching a complete game and striking out seven despite allowing 10 hits.
GAME FOUR: Cleveland 13, Wake Tech 4 - Nine-Run Inning Breaks It Open
Cleveland capped off the sweep with an offensive explosion in Saturday's finale. A nine-run third inning saw 13 batters come to the plate. Extra-base hits from Kassie Swink (2B, 3B), Jaylen Ledbetter (2B), Austyn Dixon (2B), and Christian Beaver (HR) led the charge.
Peyton Whitson continued her impressive weekend with a 3-for-4 day, including a triple, and Beaver drove in three with a home run and RBI single. Swink and Whitson each stole two bases as the Yetis turned up the pressure on the basepaths.
Beaver also handled pitching duties, scattering seven hits over five innings for her 15th win of the season.
