Yetis Break Records and Set the Pace at Phoenix Invitational
The Cleveland Community College Yetis track and field team delivered a strong showing at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University on Friday, March 13, highlighted by record-breaking performances and multiple personal bests.
Elijah Stroud etched his name into the record books with a standout performance in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:27 to set a new school record. Not to be outdone, Brayden Rushing followed with a record-breaking run of his own in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:05 to claim the new program mark. Both records were previously held by Marty Lovingood, marking a significant milestone for the Yetis distance program.
Chris Childs turned in a podium performance in the field events, securing a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.86 meters.
The Yetis also saw strong depth in the middle-distance events, as Fred Nelson and Jaylon Porter each posted personal best times in the 800 meters, continuing the team's momentum on the track.
On the sprint side, Jordan Marble competed in both the 100 and 200 meters, gaining valuable experience against a competitive field.
For the women's team, Alisa Powe represented Cleveland in the 100 and 200 meters, while Leilanni Delano competed in both the 400 and 800 meters, showcasing versatility across sprint and middle-distance events.
With multiple records falling and several athletes achieving personal milestones, the Yetis continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
