The Cleveland Community College Yetis battled through a three-game road stretch last week, earning a hard-fought conference win at Guilford Technical while showcasing strong individual performances across all contests.
Catawba Valley 93, Cleveland 63
The Yetis opened the trip at the Tarlton Complex against Catawba Valley Community College. Despite a competitive effort on the glass, Cleveland ran into a deep Red Hawk lineup that controlled the boards and capitalized at the free throw line.
Jacob Adair and Kelan Flowers led the offensive charge with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Adair knocked down two shots from beyond the arc and went 6-of-8 at the stripe, while Flowers added two triples of his own.
Josh Bullock provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points and shooting 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Cairo Morales anchored the paint with a double-digit rebounding effort, pulling down 10 boards to go along with four points. Tamareion Roundtree added six rebounds and two blocks, giving the Yetis interior presence.
As a team, Cleveland collected 41 rebounds, including 13 on the offensive glass, but Catawba Valley's 62 total rebounds and 26 made free throws proved to be the difference.
Cleveland 91, Guilford Technical 86
The Yetis responded in a big way on February 13, erupting for 59 second-half points to secure a key 91-86 victory over Guilford Technical.
Miles Beard came off the bench and delivered a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Flowers added 19 points, attacking the rim and converting 7-of-8 free throws while also dishing out three assists.
Morales dominated the paint with a monster performance, pouring in 15 points and grabbing 19 rebounds—13 on the offensive end—to give Cleveland multiple second-chance opportunities. He also added three steals in a relentless two-way effort.
Adair chipped in 12 points with two three-pointers, while Roundtree contributed 10 points and six rebounds in an efficient outing. The Yetis shot 42.1% from beyond the arc and knocked down 27 free throws, showing poise down the stretch to close out the road win.
Central Carolina 82, Cleveland 72
The Yetis capped the trip at Central Carolina in a high-efficiency matchup that saw both teams shoot over 50% from the floor.
Adair delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, exploding for 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from long range. He added three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in an all-around effort.
Flowers followed with 15 points and five assists, while Jamari Smith added seven points and four assists. Morales was efficient inside, finishing 3-of-3 from the field for six points, along with five rebounds, a steal, and a block.
Cameron McDowell provided a boost off the bench with six points on a perfect 2-of-3 shooting from deep, and Roundtree added six points and four rebounds.
Cleveland shot an impressive 50.9% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range, but Central Carolina's 34-21 rebounding advantage and 16 made free throws helped the Cougars secure the win.
Through the three-game stretch, the Yetis showcased balanced scoring, strong guard play, and dominant rebounding performances from Morales. With contributions across the roster and continued growth on both ends of the floor, Cleveland remains poised as conference play intensifies.
