Yetis Men's Basketball Splits Home Stand with Grit and Fire
The Cleveland Community College Yetis men's basketball team delivered two competitive performances at home in late January and early February, highlighted by a clutch conference win and a narrow battle that came down to the final possessions.
Yetis Hold Off Guilford Tech in 90–86 Thriller
The Yetis earned a hard-fought 90–86 victory over Guilford Technical Community College on January 21, leaning on physical play inside, balanced scoring, and a dominant rebounding effort to secure the win.
Cairo Morales anchored the Yetis in the paint, finishing with a team-high 24 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double performance. Morales was efficient around the rim and aggressive on the glass, helping Cleveland control the boards 40–24.
Jacob Adair provided a major boost from the perimeter, knocking down three triples and finishing with 20 points. Jamari Smith added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Josh Bullock delivered key production off the bench with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists, going 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
The Yetis' depth also played a role, with Miles Beard chipping in eight points and Cameron McDowell adding timely minutes and a three-pointer. Cleveland capitalized at the free throw line, converting 22-of-30 attempts, and used second-chance opportunities generated by 13 offensive rebounds to offset Guilford Tech's strong shooting night.
Yetis Battle to the Buzzer in 93–89 Loss to DDCC Storm
On February 7, the Yetis were back on their home floor for a high-energy matchup against Davidson Davie Community College Storm. Despite out-rebounding the Storm 49–35 and shooting over 94 percent from the free throw line, the Yetis came up just short in a 93–89 contest.
Kelan Flowers delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, pouring in a game-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting while adding seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Miles Beard continued his strong stretch off the bench with 24 points, including four three-pointers, and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Jamari Smith posted a well-rounded effort with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Martiste Mills contributed eight points on a perfect night at the line. Hans Ngolaminga added six rebounds and interior presence, helping Cleveland dominate the glass and generate 16 second-chance points.
The difference ultimately came down to efficiency and free throws, as DDCC converted 27-of-30 attempts at the line and received significant bench production to withstand the Yetis' late push.
Across both games, Cleveland Community College showcased toughness, depth, and the ability to compete in tight situations. With strong performances from both starters and reserves, the Yetis continue to build momentum as they push deeper into the season.
