Yetis Men's Basketball shows fight in home opener against Gaston College
The Cleveland Community College Yetis men's basketball team opened their home schedule Tuesday night, facing off against a tough Gaston College squad. Despite a strong offensive showing from several players, the Yetis couldn't slow the Rhinos' high-powered attack, falling 108–78.
Gaston College's hot shooting from the perimeter—hitting 16 threes at nearly 49%—proved to be the difference as the Rhinos controlled the pace throughout the game. The Yetis kept things competitive early, trailing by just 11 at halftime, but Gaston's size and depth took over down the stretch.
Sophomore guard Miles Beard was the offensive spark for Cleveland, coming off the bench to post a team-high 28 points on an impressive 11-for-17 shooting, including three from beyond the arc. Starter Jacob Adair added 12 points and six rebounds, showing consistency on both ends of the floor.
Cairo Morales contributed 11 points and two steals, while Kelan Flowers filled the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Josh Bullock and Tamareion Roundtree chipped in on defense and at the line, combining for eight points.
As a team, Cleveland shot 39.4% from the field and 35% from three, but couldn't match Gaston's shooting efficiency and rebounding advantage (48–32).
The Yetis will look to regroup and build on their offensive potential as they continue their early-season schedule. Despite the loss, the team showed flashes of strong ball movement and depth from its bench—a solid foundation for what's ahead in Region 10 play.
