The Cleveland Yetis packed plenty of offense into a busy stretch last week, bouncing back from a hard-fought midweek loss to claim three straight wins over Wake Tech in weekend action.
Cleveland opened the week on April 1 with an 10-8 loss to CVCC in a game that featured multiple late rallies by the Yetis. The weekend told a different story, though, as Cleveland answered with an 8-6 win in Friday's opener, a 17-7 run-rule victory in Friday's second game, and a 16-8 win on Saturday to secure the series.
Against CVCC, the Yetis showed plenty of fight after falling behind early. Reese Guertin led the charge with two hits and three RBIs, while Timothy Negron collected two hits and drove in a run. Alex McKee scored twice and added two hits, Connor Lindsey finished with two hits, and Walker Hartley also recorded a two-hit game. Cleveland put together a four-run seventh inning to climb back into the contest, with Guertin, Tanner Britt and Wyatt McSwaim all delivering run-producing hits. Negron added an RBI single in the eighth, but CVCC answered in the ninth and held on.
The Yetis responded in a big way when Wake Tech came to town for the weekend series.
In Friday's first game, Cleveland erased a 6-3 deficit by exploding for five runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-6 win. Cruise Arnold sparked the comeback with a huge performance, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs. He delivered a two-run single in the third, brought home another run in the fifth, and added a two-run knock during the decisive sixth inning. Guertin scored twice, drove in a run and reached base four times, while Tyler Rosario scored twice and added an RBI. On the mound, Kohen Orr turned the game around with four strong relief innings, allowing just one run while striking out seven. Aaron Main closed it out with three scoreless innings.
The bats stayed hot in Friday's nightcap as the Yetis overwhelmed Wake Tech 17-7 in five innings. Cleveland erupted for nine runs in the first inning and never let up. Rosario had a monster game, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Arnold continued his big day with two hits and three RBIs, including a home run, while Connor Lindsey added two hits and two RBIs. Reese Guertin drove in two, Walker Hartley knocked in two, and the Yetis piled up 15 hits in the shortened game. Tanner Britt also homered, and Bryson Dempsey chipped in two hits and an RBI. After Wake Tech trimmed the margin, Cleveland answered with a seven-run fifth to end it early.
The Yetis finished the series in style on Saturday with a 16-8 win, backing another explosive offensive effort with timely pitching. Rosario stayed red-hot, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Arnold turned in another standout performance with three hits and four RBIs, while Guertin did damage both at the plate and on the mound. He scored four times, had two hits, drove in two runs, including a home run, and also started the game in the circle-equivalent role on the mound, working four innings with five strikeouts. Hartley scored three runs and swiped two bases, and Lindsey added an RBI. Cleveland used a five-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth to seize control before adding three more runs in the seventh.
Over the three-game series win against Wake Tech, the Yetis' offense was relentless. Arnold was one of the biggest catalysts, driving in 12 runs across the series. Rosario also delivered a huge weekend, consistently setting the table and cashing in scoring chances, while Guertin continued to impact the game in multiple ways. Cleveland's lineup applied pressure throughout the order, and the pitching staff came up with key innings when the Yetis needed them most.
After a narrow setback to CVCC earlier in the week, Cleveland answered with an emphatic weekend, winning three straight and showing the kind of firepower that can change a game in a hurry.
